With an enviable career in the indie scene, Entrópica is already established in Chile as an important name. In an afternoon that she gave us, she told us more about her project, inspirations and future plans. Keep reading to get to know more!

Hace pocos días nos hemos enterado que has sido nominada en los premios Pulsar con dos categorías: “Mejor artista pop” y “Mejor portada de disco“ ¿Qué ha significado para ti esta noticia?

La verdad fue súper extraño porque he postulado todos los años sin ninguna esperanza y asumida de que no iba a quedar, pero cuando me enteré de las dos nominaciones fue muy bacán, demasiado inesperado y sorpresivo para mi.

The truth is that it was really strange because I have postulated every single year without any hope and assuming that I was not going to be selected, but when I found out about the nominations it was really cool, very unexpected and surprising for me.

Esta semana estrenaste «Formas», un videoclip con una excelente producción que ha sido inspirado en la única e inigualable Grace Jones, específicamente cuando visitó nuestro país para presentarse en el programa de Raúl Matas en el año 80, en plena dictadura militar. ¿Cuál fue el mensaje que quisiste transmitir al recordar este icónico momento?

Yo no conocía este video y cuando mi pololo me lo mostró el año pasado no lo podía creer, para mi era como imposible que Grace Jones estuviese aquí. La verdad cuando vimos el video nos llamó la atención el público tan gris, con un ambiente envuelto por la dictadura. Raúl mata diciendo cosas como “Si las esposas son comprensivas tendrán la paciencia de que a sus maridos les guste Grace Jones” y una serie de comentarios muy machistas y horribles. No voy a negar que Raúl Matas era un aporte, porque si, en ese momento era el único que traía músicos a su programa, impulsaba la música, pero tenía un discurso muy machista y diabólico. Nosotras lo miramos ahora como mujeres y es impactante. A mí me llamó la atención ese contraste, de que hoy de alguna u otra como mujeres estamos viviendo las mismas cosas terroríficas que se gestionaron en los ochentas. Nos animamos a hacer este video ahora más que en otros periodos porque aún cargamos con una constitución hecha en dictadura, donde el estado es subsidiario y seguimos atados al sistema de AFP. Hay un montón de cosas que se gestionaron en ese momento de las cuales seguimos siendo esclavos hoy, entonces quería como un poco “refrescar” la represión que se vivió en ese momento y que nosotros juramos que ya pasó y no, no ha pasado. Seguimos teniendo represiones sociales y creo que traer este tema y traer esta época de nuevo al inconsciente colectivo es súper bueno.

I didn’t know about that video and when my boyfriend showed it to me I couldn’t believe it, for me it was like impossible that Grace Jones could have been here. The truth is that when we saw the video it called to our attention the gray audience, enveloped by the dictatorship atmosphere. Raul Matas saying things like “If the wives are comprehensive they will have the patience that their husbands like Grace Jones” and several more sexist and horrible comments. I will not deny that Raul Matas was a contribution, because yes at that time he was the only one who brought musicians to his show, he promoted music, but he had a very sexist and devilish speech. We look at him now as women and it is shocking. It caught my eye that contrast, that today as women we still living the same horrific things that used to happen back in the 80s. We encouraged ourselves to make this video now more than on other periods because we’re still carrying with a constitution made in a dictatorship, where the state is subsidiary and we still tied up to the AFP system. There are multiple things that were managed in that time of which we keep being slaves until today, so I wanted to “refresh” the repression that it was lived in that time, that we are “sure” that it has ended and no, it hasn’t. We continue having social repressions and I think that bringing this issue back and that period again to the collective unconscious is very good.

Cambiando de tema, sabemos que la crisis sanitaria a la que nos vemos enfrentados nos ha afectado a todos, pero sin duda alguna para el mundo de la música ha sido una situación bastante compleja ¿Cómo lo has experimentado tú? ¿Cómo te ha afectado en términos de inspiración?

En estas circunstancias he tenido mucho tiempo para trabajar en el disco, porque cuando uno está de gira tiene que dividir mucho su tiempo. La verdad para mi ha sido un periodo de aprendizaje brutal. Siento que ha pesar de que este momento es horrible y terrorífico también nos va a servir para generar un segundo canal para darnos a conocer, estamos aprendiendo a hacer conciertos en los live streaming, a promocionar nuestro material por internet, entonces cuando esto termine vamos a tener este medio en el que nos estamos entrenando de a poco, que nos está nutriendo, donde estamos compartiendo y conectando con músicos de otros países.

In these circumstances, I have had a lot of time to work on the album, because when you are on tour you have to divide your time. The truth is that for me it has been a period of brutal learning. I feel that, although this moment is horrible and terrorific it is also going to help us to develop a second channel to make ourselves known, we have been learning to do live stream concerts, to promote our work on the internet, so when this comes to an end we will have this media in which we are trained little by little, that it has been nourishing us, where we are sharing and connecting with musicians from other countries.

Tengo entendido que estás preparando un nuevo álbum que aparentemente lanzarás en el segundo semestre de este año, y bueno, has manifestado en diversas ocasiones que te gusta probar cosas diferentes e ir experimentando con tu música. ¿Qué podemos esperar de este nuevo disco?

Este nuevo material es más bajado que el anterior y creo que el desafío que tengo con este disco es la parte melódica y la parte de “darle pique” a los temas sin que necesariamente sean rápidos, un poco como lo que se hace en la música electrónica. Estoy tratando de encontrar la intensidad no en la parte rítmica, sino en lo melódico y vocal explorando otros nuevos caminos.

This new material is slower than the previous one and I think the biggest challenge that I have with this album is the melodic part and the part of “giving an impulse” to the tracks without making them necessarily fast, like of what is done in electronic music. I am trying to find the intensity not in the rhythmic part, but in the melodic and vocally exploring new directions.
