Entrevista por @lagrupimoderna y @improbablynot

Tras un exitoso paso como artistas invitados de Green Day el pasado año, Bad Nerves llega con más fuerza que nunca para presentarse en Lollapalooza, buscando sorprender al público sudamericano y abrir un nuevo capítulo en su carrera: Su primera participación en festivales.

Con una propuesta cargada de energía y actitud , el quinteto consolida así el crecimiento que han venido experimentando durante el último tiempo y para celebrarlo tuvimos la oportunidad de hablar con Bobby, Jon y Sam, miembros del grupo, quienes nos comentaron no solo sobre su experiencia en nuestro país, sino también acerca de su llegada a Lollapalooza, lo que significa para ellos tocar en un festival de esta magnitud, su experiencia sobre el escenario y su encuentro con la música nacional.

ITSA: Este fue su primer Lollapalooza tanto en Latinoamérica como en general ¿verdad?

Itsa: This was your first ever Lollapalooza in Latin America and your first Lollapalooza ever, right?

BOBBY: Para nosotros, sí.

JON: Hicimos historia.

BOBBY: Yeah, for us

JON: We´ve made history

ITSA: ¿Cómo fue la experiencia en un festival con tanta historia como este?

ITSA: How was the experience with a festival that has so much history?

JON: Lo esperábamos hace mucho, ¿No?

BOBBY: Sí, bueno, creo que es un festival muy icónico, que te pidan tocar en cualquier parte del mundo es un privilegio.

JON: Aunque nos sentimos extra privilegiados de tocar aquí.

BOBBY: Sí, nuestra experiencia en Sudamérica ha sido pura alegría, nos hemos divertido mucho.

JON: Nuestros fans aquí son súper apasionados, algunos dirían que son los más apasionados del mundo.

JON: We were looking forward to it for a long time, haven’t we?

BOBBY: Yeah well, I think it’s such an iconic festival isn’t it? To be asked to play anywhere in the world is a privilege.

JON: We feel extra privileged to come and play here though.

BOBBY: Yeah, South America- our experience of South America it’s been just absolute joy, it’s been so much fun.

JON: Our fans over here are super passionate, some may say the most passionate in the world.

ITSA: ¿No estaban nerviosos entonces?

ITSA: So you weren’t nervous?

JON: No creo que tan nervioso. La gente aquí es muy amigable, es como salir y ver a todo el mundo sonriendo.

BOBBY: Yo estaba un poco nervioso, pero… quiero decir, una cantidad saludable. Nuestro guitarrista dijo que tenía solo una mariposa. Es el segundo show y está muy enfermo.

JON: I don’t think really that nervous, because people here are super friendly. So it’s like you go out and people are smiling.

Bobby: I was a lil’ bit nervous, but… I mean like a healthy amount. Our lead guitar said we had one butterfly, it’s the second show and he’s extremely ill.

ITSA: Después de Chile ¿Seguirán tocando en América Latina? Ya han estado aquí antes ¿Dirían que están más preparados? ¿Quizá aprendieron español?

ITSA: So after Chile, you guys are gonna keep playing Latin America? You’ve been here before, would you say you’re more prepared? Did you learn spanish maybe?

BOBBY: Cuando vienes a estos lugares… para mí, que tengo el micrófono en el escenario, intento hablar un poco del idioma local, ¿sabes? Creo que es divertido. Quiero ser capaz de decir más que solo: “hola ¿cómo estás?”, ¿sabes? Intento decir algunas cosas, creo que la gente lo aprecia. Yo aprecio cuando la gente viene a Inglaterra e intentan hablar inglés. Pero en general, los ingleses no somos buenos con otros idiomas, nos lavaron el cerebro.

JON No, es cierto. Pero Duolingo está cambiando todo eso, realmente cambiando el panorama.

BOBBY: Saludos a Duolingo.

BOBBY: When you come to these other places… For me having the microphone on stage, I try to speak a bit of the local language, you know? I think it’s fun. I wanna be able to say more than just “hello, how are you?”, you know? I try to say a few things I think people appreciate. I appreciate it when people come to England and they try to speak English, you know? But generally, english people aren’t great with other languages, we’ve been brainwashed.

JON: No, it’s true. But Duolingo is changing all that, it’s really changing the game.

BOBBY: shoutout to Duolingo.

ITSA: ¿Tuvieron tiempo de pasear por la ciudad?

ITSA: Did you have time to walk around the city?

JON: Fuimos bastante afortunados, porque tenemos vacaciones.

BOBBY: Hemos tenido un par de días para estar en la piscina. De hecho, estoy muy quemado.  

SAM: Ha sido genial, amamos Chile la vez pasada. Poder volver y dedicar un tiempo libre aquí para apreciarlo todo…

BOBBY: Es genial.

JON: We’ve been very lucky, because we caught a free holiday.

BOBBY: We’ve had a couple of days around the swimming pool, I’m actually severely sunburnt. Look at these two! They’re fine.

SAM: it’s been amazing, we loved Chile the last time. The fact that we could come back and dedicate time off here as well to take it all in… 

BOBBY: It’s amazing.

ITSA: ¿Tienen algún mensaje para sus fans en Chile?

ITSA: Do you guys have any messages to the Chilean fans?

BOBBY: Supongo que el mensaje sería gracias por… ya saben, venir a vernos tocar. Realmente espero poder volver.

JON: Ustedes son los fans más apasionados que uno puede encontrar.

BOBBY: es un verdadero privilegio estar aquí. No nos queremos ir, para ser honestos contigo. No queremos irnos… Pero tenemos que irnos mañana.

BOBBY: I guess the message would be, thank you for, you know… Coming to see us play. I really hope we can come back.

JON:You’re the most passionate fans one can find, you know.

BOBBY: It’s a real privilege to be here. We don’t wanna leave, to be honest with you, we do not wanna leave… but we have to leave tomorrow.

ITSA: Por último, la última vez que hablamos te recomendé un disco chileno llamado Alturas de Machu Picchu de Los Jaivas, ¿Tuviste tiempo para escucharlo?

ITSA: lastly, the last time we spoke I recommended to you a Chilean album which was Alturas de Machu Picchu by Los Jaivas, did you have time to listen to it?

BOBBY: Lo hice, es genial.

JON: ¿Cómo se llama?

BOBBY: Es sobre Machu Picchu, está en Perú.

BOBBY: I did. It was so cool!

JON: What’s the name?

BOBBY: It’s about Machu Picchu, which is in Peru.

ITSA: Los Jaivas son una banda chilena muy buena y muy antigua que toca… Rock psicodélico.

ITSA: Los Jaivas are a very old and amazing Chilean band, they play kind of… Psychedelic rock music.

JON: Oh, entonces estará en nuestro próximo álbum.

BOBBY: Sí, todo lo que estamos haciendo ahora suena así, es de donde sacamos toda la inspiración.

JON: Oh! So it’ll be on our next album.

BOBBY: Yeah. Everything we’re making now sounds like that, it’s where we got everything off from.
